A Brief History of Theatre in Laleham Village
From records it's clear that plays were being performed in Laleham Village Hall as far back as 1939, but it wasn't until 1944 that the name Laleham Players was formally adopted by a group of theatre enthusiasts. The Laleham Players continued staging prodcutions until 1965. Older village residents tell us they have fond childhood memories of going to the panto in Laleham Village Hall. In 2013 Laleham Players reformed, producing six successful pantos in association with the LRA. In 2020 Laleham Players became independent, forming Laleham Players Theatre Company. After the first wave of Covid halted all public performances, Laleham Panto was re-launched in 2021 with the smash hit The Snow Queen and the Abominable Goblin, followed in March 2023 with the equally successful The Princess and the Mushy Peas. In March 2024 Laleham Players second Spring panto Red and the Rotten Relatives further delighted and wowed Laleham audiences. Below is an excerpt from the Laleham Commonplace Book, published in the 1970's, which gives more details about the origins of Laleham Players.
